Updated to the version you specified, but nothing worked.

Ok, the xlink:href was working (which I tested).
The issue was with urls containing that hash thing, so:
image.svg#something

Thank you, now everything is being replaced.
But a more global problem has surfaced that puts off such an implementation in your plugin indefinitely.

It turns out that you cannot use a call from other domains, protocols, and ports for SVG files. It is necessary that they fully coincide with the current domain, protocol and port according to the specifications and security policies!
