Quick Index has trouble with to much headlines?

Peter Bödeker's Avatar Peter Bödeker
Hello!
Since the last update (or one before that ...), an index is no longer created if the page has too many headings. I can't name the exact number above which the problem occurs, but this is the second time I've encountered it. For example here: www.blueprints.de/zitate/tipps-grosser-denker/
Or is it something else?
Best regards
Peter

Try increasing your servers php regex memory setting.

The memory limit is on the maximum: 512 MB.

Can you give me (super) admin and (s)ftp access so I can take a look?

I would also need the (s)ftp access.

Try increasing your PHP version. You are using PHP 8.1 which does have some issues. Use PHP 8.2 or higher.

And of course, you have to wonder whether it is a good idea to have SO MUCH content on a single page. Why not split it up into separate pages???

I get error 500 with 8.2 or 8.3 - both on admin and on the live page ...

You would have to check what breaks the page then. Switch on error reporting and debug mode.

Hello Peter,
now the site is on PHP 8.3 and Joomla 5 and the error is still there. For example:
www.bauen-und-heimwerken.de/hausbau/heiz...-was-braucht-man.htm
and
www.blueprints.de/zitate/tipps-grosser-denker/
What could we do?
Kind regards
Peter

Hmmh - there is no error messages. And the site is not broken. Only {index} is not working. But maybe I'm missing something.

If you get a 500 error, then there is probably some php memory issue. Probably the RegEx memory running out. Ask your host about it.
And as mentioned/asked earlier:

Hello Peter,
What are you talking about? There is no 500 error, the page runs normally. Only {index} does nothing... Or are we talking at cross purposes?
In other words: Why is there no table of contents on this page?

Hard to follow what the issue is.

Again, I think it is due to the shear amount of html you have on the site, which the php fails to deal with.
My advise would be to break up the pages so they have less content.

One of the reasons you have so much html, is because you have these inline forms that also place quite large parts of inline javascript blocks.

Hello Peter,
the problems with PHP 8.3 have been fixed, there were problems with the PHP settings at the hoster. These have been corrected - now there are no more problems. Joomla is also up to date. Everything works, except Quick-Index on some pages.
Ok, the pages are long, but that makes sense for some topics. We don't want to split this up over several pages, because in the past there have always been problems with URL conversions when Joomla versions were changed. I also don't think the content is sooooo long - some Wikipedia articles are longer. We also have longer content.
It's a shame that there's no clue as to why Quick-Index doesn't do anything here and that we have no indication as to why this is the case. If it were the number of headings, for example, then you could remove some of them ... But you don't see any possibilities to find the cause, right?
With kind regards
Peter

As I have mentioned numerous times now, it is not the amount of headings. It is the amount of html in the page.
I can't help you any further with this.
If Quick Index fails to give you what you want, then you'll have to find a different solution.

As I have mentioned numerous times now .... in German this is called ‘Schweinchen-Schlau-Aussage’. It stands for not communicating in a very respectful way, also for arrogance.
Because I think you didn't express yourself so clearly, you first blamed it primarily on problems in PHP and then assumed (!) that it was due to too much HTML.
Presumably (....) this assumption of yours is even wrong, because for example www.bauen-und-heimwerken.de/baustoffe/daemmstoffe.htm has significantly more words, significantly more HTML and Quick-Index runs without any problems. So it must be something else.
But the whole thing is not that important as it only affects very few pages. So please don't bother any further. It was just important to me to give you some feedback. You can of course do what you like with it 🙂
All the best to you
Peter
