How do I make the screen transparent except when I have the message

Thanks for responding so quickly.

I put this on a page --- {modal url=" careeractions.org/index.php?option=com_c...&view=article&id=502 " width="600" height="120" class="custom-modal-class" top="50px" left="50px" closebutton="true"}Guide for using this page{/modal}

Here are the issues 1. The article displays in a window of the correct size but the rest of the page is black - I want the rest of the page to be transparent so the user can see it. 2 the only Close button is an "x" in the upper right of the page 3. I have to put the whole URL in the code vs just "article/502"

1. You can try different styles. Maybe the classic style suits your neefs better:

You can change the opacity and other styling stuff via css.

2. Correct. You can also clise with the ESC key and create custom close buttons inside the modal content. Read the docs.
