How do I exclude the current article from those returned on select by tag if the current article contains that tag? Or, how do I simply exclude the current article from matches?

You can simply add id="!current" to the {articles} tag.

Eg:

{articles tags="Apples" id="!current"}

Oops - that seemed so right but it's not working for me. I get the current article which in turn brings in the other matches repeatedly until the limit is reached.

I think my syntax is as you described:

{articles tags="Sites" separator="<hr>" id="!current"}{/articles}

Is there an alternate way I can try?

It is now working as expected.
Perhaps it was a cache issue as I have not changed the syntax.
