Brave browser option in "Browsers"

zensiro's Avatar zensiro
Hi there,

I was wondering if it would be possible to have the "brave Browser" option in the "browser settings.

Apart from it being a great, and popular browser, it would give valuable options when it comes to using custom modules showing advertising code (for example Adsense).

Because Brave browser removes all ads, sites are left with white spaces on spots where ads are removed, or modules don't show when there is advertising code.

If it was possible to include/exclude Brave browser this could be used to show alternative module options for brave browser users. (for example non advertising modules)

Is this perhaps something that could be added?

Thanks for adding this.

I can select brave in the settings now, but when I select to include/exclude it from the brave browser it does not apply.

Can you check the user agent string your browser gives?

Sure, it's:

So your Brave browser is mimicking a different browser. There is no information suggesting this is a Brave browser.
In other words, it is not possible to do any module assignments in this case.

There are user strings that contain 'Brave'. I am not sure if that is only for older versions, or if that relies on a setting within Brave. I don't use that browser.

Brave does not seem to have its own user agent.

I did find this:

But not sure if it's still relevant.

Looking deeper into this, it seems the keyword 'Brave' is only added to the User Agent string on some platforms (I think only Windows) and probably not on all versions.
There are some ways to detect it, but that requires javascript.
Seeing the module assignments are done serverside, via PHP, it is not possible to reliably check if it is a Brave browser.

I will remove the option from the browser list again.

Ok, it was too good to be true 🙂

Thanks for trying to add this.
